The Epidemiology Branch conducts several surveillance projects throughout the year.
- Influenza Surveillance - Each year from October to mid-May, Georgia's Division of Public Health tracks cases of influenza (flu) throughout the State with the help of volunteer sentinel physicians. Many viruses can cause flu-like illness during the fall and winter months. Click here to find out which of these viruses have been detected in Georgia this season.
- Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Surveillance - The Georgia Department of Public Health began conducting surveillance for RSVin mid-August 2000. Our goals for conducting surveillance for RSV in Georgia include determining the onset, duration, peak, and end of the RSV season.
- Zoonotics/Vector-Borne/Infestations - Tracking the importation of disease or disease vectors in Georgia. With warmer weather come mosquitos and ticks. Learn about the diseases they carry and steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.
- Invasive Bacterial Diseases - The Georgia Department of Public Health conducts surveillance on bacterial pathogens that cause invasive disease by invading the bloodstream or other sterile body sites. Learn about these pathogens, the diseases they cause, how they are spread, and how to protect yourself.
