STD Awareness Campaigns

Goal/Outcome:
Reduce the prevalence of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea infections in Georgia through counseling and testing. This seasonal campaign is targeted to provide Chlamydia and gonorrhea testing for students attending
colleges and universities across Georgia. This campaign is designed to provide:
- Information about Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other Sexually transmitted Infections
- Prevention counseling and messages
- On-site testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea
- Campaign screenings for 2009 were conducted from January through June.

- The STD Unit conducted 17 visits to colleges and universities throughout the state of Georgia
- 1,294 students were tested for Chlamydia and gonorrhea using the Nucleric Acid Amplification Test on uring specimens
- Of the voluntary student participants tested, there was a 12% posiive Chlamydia average
- Positive gonorrhea tests averaged 1.14%
